Community Conservation Assists in Golden Langur Conservation
Assam, India - Community Conservation Executive Director, Robert Horwich has been working with regional Non-governmental organizations and local communities to protect the endangered Golden Langur, threatened by illegal logging in the forests of the Manas Biosphere Reserve in western Assam, India. Each Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) works with communities adjacent to the Reserve Forests or protected areas to initiate community forest protection and reforestation programs. The strategy can be easiest seen when looking at the southern "island" forests of Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, and Nadangiri and Kakoijana Reserve Forests where the participating villages surround the protected areas. Developing Conservation Strategies for Tree Kangaroos
Papua New Guinea - The Tree kangaroo conservation Program (TKCP) has worked in Papua New Guinea since 1996. The program is under the direction of Dr. Lisa Dabek, Director of Conservation and Research at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence Rhode Island. The TKCP works in Morobe district in the YUS Local Level Government on the Huon peninsula in northern Papua New Guinea.YUS stands for Yupna, Urawa and Som Rivers, the principal watersheds of the area.
