Mexico Conservation Projects
Punta Laguna
Community Conservation has worked with Pronatura de Yucatan
to help the Mayan village of Punta Laguna protect a local population of spider
monkeys. The area is also an archaeological site, which the local community
has developed for additional tourism. There is currently a rain forest honey
project to develop income for the community and additional programs to create
economic incentives through tourism and produce sales.
Dr. Laura Vick of Peace College is gathering information on spider monkey behavior and ecology. The project is managed by Pronatura de Yucatan (website in Spanish).
